Remarks & Notes
CSX Extra 241 South emerges from Hagans Tunnel. The 6,244-foot bore was opened in 1930 and connected the Harlan County, Kentucky coalfield area with Virginia, and connections to the south via the Clinchfield. Just ahead the train will negotiate the Hagans switchback. This will take about 40 minutes, after which the train will have gained just over 100 feet in elevation and turned 90 degrees to the left. The main line leaving the switchback is further up on the mountain side from this tunnel portal.
