Remarks & Notes
DSNG 486 Navigates up the Former DGRW Right of way heading north out of Durango. This DGRW Narrow Gauge Right of Way was made to access the Silver Mines, which was why the town of Silverton Colorado Came into existence. In the late 70s early 80s Charles Bradshaw Jr. Bought the Line from the DGR&W and restored the line back to resonable operational standards, and started operations on train from Durango to Silverton Colorado as a tourist operation not long after. Here in 2014 under the same management since 1997 The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad continues operations at a cost of nearly $24 million dollars a year. But that cost is offset when the railroad is profitable. The railroad is also according to National Geographic the Number 1 Best Train Trip in North America. This train ride is a definite must experience to truly appreciate the history and past of North American Railroading. Here The train heading to the Cascade Canyon is seen on the climb from Hermosa to Rockwood pulling hard with 8 cars full of passengers enjoying an absolutely beautiful day in the San Juan Mountains in South Western Colorado. The DSNG 486 is a Baldwin Built K-36 built in 1925 for the DGRW and has been operating on the Durango and Silverton since 1999.
