A northbound unit coal train passes the old tower at Patio, KY (Winchester) on October 3, 1986. This was a pusher grade (from the bottom of the grade at the Kentucky River, at Ford) in steam days. The three SD50s, however, don't need a rear end shove. Lead unit 8506 was a member of the initial order of SD50s received by Seaboard System in 1983. The units were actually ordered by the L&N, but it ceased to exist as a corporation at the end of 1982, with its functions absorbed (along with SCL, Clinchfield, Georgia and West Point Route) into the new Seaboard System.
