Remarks & Notes
A five hour late eastbound Empire Builder, with three private cars on the rear, finally pulls into the Fargo station after freight traffic clears. Unfortunately, the crew is about to die on hours, meaning the train will be stuck in the metro for a while. Plus, a derailment near Elk River, MN, means the train will be detouring over the original Great Northern route via Breckenridge and Willmar, MN, to reach the Twin Cities.

The wide open spaces of the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma have little service - one train for the entire state. South Dakota has none.
