Watching history unfold again... Norfolk Southern's 30th Anniversary celebration at the NCTM in 2012 brought together hundreds of enthusiasts for the unique gathering of their 20 specially painted locomotives, commemorating the 30th birthday of the Class One railroad. Experiencing the release of each heritage locomotive and witnessing an event of this magnitude was hard to comprehend at the time... Fast forwarding a little shy of two years, the much anticipated Streamliners at Spencer event is only days away and is undoubtedly one of the must-do rail photography outings of the decade! With over two dozen participating first generation diesels representing a wide variety of fallen flags and Norfolk & Western's 611 serving as the centerpiece for the four day festival, Streamliners is likely to go down in history as one of the most dynamic rail photograph events, ever. Envisioning this event or the entire concept of Norfolk Southern's 30th anniversary heritage program five years ago would have been incredibly difficult to fully comprehend.. The announcement of several mainline steam restoration projects over the past few years cannot be forgotten, too. It's certainly an exciting era for mainline railroad preservation and photography... The future looks awfully encouraging! Photo depicts NS' Illinois Terminal heritage SD70ACe posing alongside its heritage siblings around the Bob Julian Roundhouse in Spencer, N.C. on July 2nd, 2012.
