A westbound (northbound) freight enters San Yard in Owosso, MI. The name San Yard was given due to the literal translation of the word "San", meaning without. That was a result of the fact that the Ann Arbor main from Durand, MI. to Owosso, MI. was removed, and through a joint agreement with the Grand Trunk Western, the Ann Arbor would utilize the parallel line that ran right to the yard, eliminating the need for the Ann Arbor main. This agreement is still in place with current yard owner Great Lakes Central, and current line owner Huron & Eastern. 35mm slide from my collection, photo by Bob Graham.
