Curving under Star Peak Eastbound BNSF freight HPASDAL traverses a curve just east of Noxon, Montana, on a wintery February 8, 2014. Snow-capped Star Peak of the Cabinet Mountain Range dominates the background in this scene on Montana Rail Link’s Fourth Subdivision. Star Peak (formerly Squaw Peak) was the location of first fire lookout in Montana. The little white tip on top of the peak is the current 1957-built pyramidal roof lookout structure sitting at an elevation of 6,167 feet. This was the last active lookout on the Cabinet Ranger District and had been manned from 1906-2003.
