Ex-Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Royal Hudson 2839 was leased to the Southern Ry. for a while in 1979, and on July 6, it was hustling a trainload of excursionists south of Johnson City, Tenn., headed for Bulls Gap to turn and head back north to Bristol. The sign riding on the pilot beam reads “Southern Railway.”
