What was left of CN’s old “Super Continental,” VIA’s westbound Train 3 was approaching Jasper, Alta. at English. This was the sole route chosen by the Canadian Government to route VIA's transcontinental passenger train. Ditch lights were just coming into use and 6501 doesn’t have any yet on this July 31, 1981 when a second CN main track at left was being built with concrete ties.
