Remarks & Notes
CSX Transportation had managed to pretty much fully integrate its ex-Chessie and ex-Seaboard System locomotive fleets by 1987, as evidenced by this group of units at the ex-L&N EK Subdivision coalfield terminal at Hazard, KY. Most of the facilities were still in place at Hazard at the time, but the coming years would bring the advance of austerity as CSX's bean counters cut away at small terminals, servicing (particularly fueling) facilities and crew districts all over the railroad system. GP40 6801 was one of the earliest units to be painted in a blue and gray variation of the CSX Transportation paint scheme, but it was still in Seaboard System French gray with yellow and red at the time. Actually, the similar Family Lines and SBD locomotive paint schemes were fairly attractive, albeit short-lived.
