Remarks & Notes
A Raritan Valley Line train bound for Newark Penn Station meets NS 33K in Hillside amid a haze of blowing snow. It is unusual for powdery snow to remain in place in New Jersey for as long as it has. Extremely cold, dry weather has prevented the typical pattern of snow melting into wet slush. One other unusual item is the consist of train 5438. In the days leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII, NJ Transit has pulled several sets of multi-level cars in preparation for service to the game. The RVL has almost exclusively been serviced by multi-level car consists in recent years.
