Remarks & Notes |
Heuningspruit on the Free State main line is one of the last remaining stations in South Africa that evokes memories of country stations on the old South African Railways (SAR) and is also one of the last to still have operating semaphore signals. Running about 30 minutes late, the northbound "Algoa" from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg is passing the starter signal at the north end of the station. The Up platform loop line was lifted three years ago, but the Down platform loop and freight sidings still remain. The silos at the far end of the station still provide grain traffic in the winter months. |
