In the early morning hours of Dec. 5th, a Conrail crew was backing a cut of cars into the Kinder Morgan siding in Carteret when two cars carrying hazardous chemicals derailed. One car partially derailed and the one pictured above ended up on its side. Hazmat crews were brought in and nearby buildings were evacuated. Also the northbound truck lanes of New Jersey Turnpike near the incident were shutdown. Fortunately neither car was compromised and no leaks occurred. No injuries were reported.
