| Escanaba roundhouse always played host to sets of big Alco's from the mid 70's until the retirement of first the roundhouse and then the Alco's. Here 6712, 6727 and 6716 have been fueled, sanded and lashed up for another ore run and await a crew. In the background a C628 and Baldwin/EMD wait for a crew to work the dumper job. It was a Alco fans dream location with friendly employees and good lighting most of the day. One Sunday afternoon in 1977 I accounted for 24 of the 29 active C628's and 4 of the Baldwin/EMD's. Now that was the life! |
