As a joint effort between NS' Pocahontas & Lake Divisions, the official Norfolk Southern Christmas Caboose sits on display in the small yard of Nitro along NS' West Virginia Secondary. Each Christmas season, the caboose travels to various communities along the Pocahontas Division in which stockings are distributed and children are given an opportunity to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This entire operation is made possible by the men and women of Norfolk Southern who volunteer their time and effort to decorating the caboose, internally and externally. The interior of the caboose features a functioning fireplace, a decorated cupola and a Christmas tree covered in NS heritage Christmas ornaments. Throughout much of December, the caboose will continue traveling to rural communities through West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio visiting with school groups and residents. The season kicked off on December 1st in Columbus, OH and will travel to Elmore, Williamson, Kenova, Portsmouth, and Norton before the conclusion of the 2013 season. My sincere thank you to the employees of Norfolk Southern for reaching out to communities and educating children and residents on the importance of railroad safety this Christmas season. Their work and dedication makes unique ideas such as this reality!
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
