Just before sunrise on a bone-chilling Autumn morning, No. 590 eases toward downtown Altoona, Pa., with Norfolk Southern's Central of New Jersey heritage unit in command. The train has just come down the eastern slope of the Pittsburgh Division, and prepares to stop for a quick crew-change before blasting off toward Harrisburg via the old tracks of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
