| Detroit & Lima Northern 7 hardly makes any smoke (it's a very efficient locomotive), so most shots of it look static - like it's standing still. I asked the fireman if he could produce "just a little" as the train rounded the curve by the cider mill, wanting a good action shot to go with a story about the No. 7 I was working on. He obliged, and within seconds of the first puff the safety valve lifted in a deafening roar. A baby cried. Cows ran. I never saw it smoke again! |
