Remarks & Notes
A trio of C&O geeps depart the Elkhorn City yard after dropping a cut of cars for the Clinchfield out of Shelby, KY. The C&O would routinely drop cars for the Clinchfield in this yard and sometimes take cars back. Today, the Elkhorn City yard is not a yard anymore on CSX, even though the track arrangement is still very similar, trains are not sorted here at all, it usually only holds stored cars or loaded coal cars from local tipples right in the yard. 35mm slide from my collection, photographer unknown.

Have you ever watched cabooses, enjoyed their uniqueness, wondered about the men inside, or the jobs they do? Once an everyday sight on the rails, they have decreased in numbers, yet they are a very important part of railroad history.

Cabooses have always been one of my favorite pieces of railroad equipment. This is just a collection of some of the caboose shots on the site.
