Remarks & Notes
You riding in the cupola of caboose 999272 on the rear of train #52, a mainline local, as it nears Engle, New Mexico, on October 20, 1968. The train originated in El Paso, Texas, and is en route to Belen, New Mexico. The mountains to the left of the train are the Fra Christobal Range, which lies just to the east of Elephant Butte Reservoir. The train is headed into a strong thunderstorm, which it will encounter in 20 miles between Crocker and Lava.
