| In the gloom of the running shed at Germiston locomotive depot, an engine hand gets to work with the steam cleaning apparatus on a grimy class 15CA. The loco is in for a boiler washout as evidenced by the water gushing out of the blowdown pipe at bottom left. These ALCO-built Mountains entered service on the South African Railways in the early 1930s and tramped on until the end of steam in 1991. Two have been preserved in working order. |
