The afternoon light catches a line-up of RRL Grindrod's locomotives waiting at the TFR station in Welkom for a call from one of the mines to collect the next load of gold-bearing ore. From left to right: RB201 (ex- SAR class 31-009), 91-03 (ex- SAR class 91 2' gauge converted to 3'6") and UCW 'Hercules' Bo-Bo diesel electric (built by Union Carriage & Wagon South Africa 1970). This is the only location in South Africa where privately owned locomotives and wagons operate daily over several kilometres of Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) track.
