Remarks & Notes
It's lettered "Greenbrier, Cheat, & Elk" on the tender tank, but the front number plate says "Cass Railroad." Shay No. 1 was painted red and green and wore "Cass, Greenbrier, Cheat, & Bald Knob Scenic" lettering for an NRHS charter in '61, then was a regular engine on the run to Whittaker when the Cass Scenic began regular operation in 1963 (it was still painted red then, with "Cass Scenic" lettering) until being pulled out of service for worn flanges in September '63. In rough shape by the late 1970s, it was cosmetically restored and traded to the B&O Museum for Western Maryland Shay 6 in 1981.
