Remarks & Notes

Although the symbol of luxury rail travel in their day, these two cars look small compared to today’s gleaming behemoths that Amtrak uses. The bigger dome car named Grand Dome is SP 3604 and was used by Southern Pacific and Amtrak, and the smaller St. Croix dome car is MP 894 which served the Missouri Pacific and Illinois Central railroads. These two cars belonged to the now-defunct Minnesota Zephyr Dinner Train and these cars were caught sitting in the Union Pacific’s North Yard in Denver while en route to Alamosa where they will be refurbished and used on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad.
