Steam, snow and sagebrush. Light snow dusts the desert landscape as Nevada Northern's Steptoe Valley Flyer runs the last few hundred yards toward her home base in Ely, Nevada. Passenger service was a fixture on the Nevada Northern between 1906 and 1941. Over that time, the line carried over 4 million patrons on various routes, the majority of which were from Ely on north to Cobre. The advent of decent roads and reliable buses spelled the end of the golden age of rail travel in this part of Nevada.
