Remarks & Notes
The second morning coal train coasts downhill through one of the scenic highlights of the Ba-Shi Railway. This location, known as Liangsuituo to locals, is where the 760mm gauge railway emerges from a narrow canyon, and crosses a small lake on a large fill. This coal train is bound for the small coal mine at Huangcunjin, the end of the railway, where it will be manually loaded. Like the passenger trains of the Ba-Shi Railway, all coal traffic on this section was 100% steam hauled, using link-n-pin couplers, and handbrakes. The loaded coal trains were kept in control on the steep 3.9% grades by two brakemen, who would crawl along the side of the train to apply and realease all the brakes as required.
