Remarks & Notes
Four L&N RS-3s are handling through freight number 65 at the north end of the long siding at Wilhoit, KY on a perfectly dreary winter day in the Appalachians. At the time, this run would usually be handled by either four old four-motor units, as shown here, or three newer six-motor units. The old war horse Alcos would continue to catch main line assignments on this route for a three or four more years, before being downgraded to local, mine run and secondary service only.
