Corbin (KY) to Norton (VA) through freight 65 picks up an extra RS-3 at Loyall to handle some additional southbound tonnage. The extra Alco will lug 1325 additional tons on the run to the N&W interchange at Norton. Returning train 66 will drop the extra unit on the way home to Corbin. This was a great way to get maximum utilization from these units. Otherwise the RS-3 would just idle away through the Kentucky night without generating any revenue ton miles for the L&N.
