There's a definite chill in the air as a short Canadian National freight charges out of the woods and into the first light of day at MP 64 on the Mountain Division of the old Maine Central. She's headed for Mountain Junction, just about 3 miles ahead, and a connection with the Boston & Maine. Although this scene actually took place in 2009 as part of a Lerro Productions Charter on the Conway Scenic Railway, the part about the cold was indeed real. This scene took place right at alpine sunrise, and the temperature was about 5F.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
