Here we see a view of the NS-36 fresh out of the paint shop and recently overhauled, one of two Rider cars used with the Track Geometry Department of Norfolk Southern. The Track Geometry Department is based out of Roanoke VA, and on this day the test train was out making use of the last of the clear weather just before the winter storms settled in to calibrate the instrumented measuring car NS-38 pulled just ahead of the observation coach. Norfolk Southern has two Track Geometry Trains; this test train is made up of NS-5622 GP-38-2, NS-38 Dynamic Measuring platform “Test Slug” (Former Locomotive), and the NS-36 Rider / Observation Car. In this view the car is parked just east of Bluefield WV at mile post N-361
