On Seven Seven Seventy-Seven (July 7, 1977), Rio Grande Zephyr train #17 emerges from shadowy Spanish Fork Canyon into golden evening sunlight at Gomex. When on time, train #17 arrived at this location at 8:05 p.m. making photography possible during the longer days of the year. I really do miss this iconic little streamliner.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
Photos by some of the best railroad still photographers in North America. These photographers must have a significant impact on the art form and have been shooting (or shot in the past) for at least 10 years.
