The rust on this wheel suggests its been several days since it rolled. Indeed, GALX 8045--an empty aluminum hopper--is spotted on the set-out track at the north end of the siding at Kermit, VA. The car was flagged by the defect detector about three miles back at Wineger, VA, so the northbound crew was obliged to set out the bad order here. Now, the hopper awaits the eventual arrival of mechanical department forces for replacement of a wheel set, or correction of whatever malady the car suffers. For now, however, the hopper faces light snow and increasingly colder temperatures at this isolated former Clinchfield location. With Christmas approaching, it appears GALX 8045 will stay at Kermit for a few more days.
