Cumberland, MD, October, 1989 - A colorful set of road power pulls a general freight past Mexico Tower and out of the Mexico Yard in Cumberland, headed for Brunswick, MD and points east. One of the things that made railfanning so interesting in the Cumberland area during the late 80s / early 90s was that nearly every train had some fascinating mix of old and new power. In this manifest, a combination of CSX's newest paint schemes were tied to locomotives of B&O, SBD and Chessie heritage. If you look closely, you can even see traces of the B&O's old "sunburst" logo from the 1960s bleeding through the back end of the second unit, one of several B&O GP-30Ms that at the time had older logos bleeding through. Today all of the paint schemes here have vanished and the Mexico Tower has closed. All that remains of the B&O heritage in this scene are the CPLs, though even they are on borrowed time.
