After three years of above average precipitation, by 1986 Utah's Great Salt Lake was at a record high level. With SP's causeway out of service, the UP granted the SP trackage rights to detour trains via Salt Lake City along the former Western Pacific. On a bright and sunny August 1986 morning, an detour train departs the passing track on the old WP at Burmester, bound for Roseville, CA.
