The so-called “Bill Gates Special,” a chartered Wisconsin and Southern passenger train is westbound and peeks around the corner near the site of Tunnel 28 east of Cliff, Colorado, on September 25, 1998. An EMD E9 going through sharp curves such as this make the it look almost toy train-like, albeit in some pretty good looking scenery! Electro Motive Division E units operating on this former Rio Grande main line were rare; like many western roads, D&RGW found EMD F unit more suitable for passenger trains on mountain grades.
