Remarks & Notes
A lashup of derelict WP switchers and GEs await an uncertain future, stored in UP's South Yard in Salt Lake City. The Sacramento Northern 607 is an NW2, built as an EMD demonstrator in Oct. 1939. The 607's employment resume includes service on the Union Pacific, the Stockton Terminal & Eastern, the Western Pacific, the Sacramento Northern, the Wasatch Mountain Railway (Heber Creeper) and the Nevada State Railroad Museum (Boulder City Southern). This yard trackage and mainline were abandoned in the late 90s and today serve as a green belt for the west perimeter of the Gateway Mall development in Salt Lake City.
