Hot car
An eastbound Chicago and North Western freight going through Sussex, Wisconsin, on May 24, 1986, had a car of lumber on fire. They stopped and cut the car from both parts of the train, which was a good idea since BCOL No. 18187 was next to a tank car! Even though some of Sussex’s finest quickly showed up, it took a while to extinguish the the fire. As it turned out, the load reignited again that night, requiring some more firefighting services. Some lumberyard surely came up a few sticks short with this load . . .
