An 8-car 'DD-AR' EMU arrives at Leiden Centraal station. Each four car set consists of a driving trailer, two trailer cars and a motor car. The motor cars are of a very unusual design having only one passenger deck, with the lower deck taken up by electrical equipment. Even more unusual is that it has three bogies! They also feature both screw couplings and a special low-mounted multiple-unit coupling. These sets were delivered in the mid-90's, but (in my opinion) have dated very quickly. NS has begun a refurbishment program but at the time of my visit only a handful of sets had been completed.
