Only the first run of the day (8:30 a.m.) up to the 6288-ft. summit of Mount Washington, N.H. is steam powered on the cog railway. All others have new state-of-art John Deere biodiesels. No. 9, named "Waubek," eases its train back down to Base station on a rainy Oct. 3, 2012. The railway has been in operation ever since the year of golden spike at Promontory Summit, Utah -- 1869, and as one can observe in all the trestle work, it is constant maintenance.
