Remarks & Notes
Amtrak's southbound Vermonter train crosses the White River in Royalton, Vermont, on the trip toward White River Junction. A little more than a year ago, Hurricane Irene swelled the White River to the point that the water here was flowing OVER the railroad bridge. Amtrak Phase I 156 leads the train on crisp first day of fall.

The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
