Remarks & Notes
Alamosa to Chama via Cumbres. Having taken water just 7 miles back at Osier, the Chama-bound 487 and her string of stockers charge past the well-worn Los Pinos Tank on the climb to Cumbres Pass. Back in the early 1900s, Los Pinos was home to a D&RG section crew and the site included a bunk house as well as a coaling facility. Most of those structures were removed by the late 1930s, but the site remained as a water stop. I am told that the tank is functional even today, but with watering facilities at both Cumbres Pass and Osier, the tourist trains that now ply the line seldom stop here any more.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
