Remarks & Notes
Early on a cold winter morning two engines are serviced before hauling another long train over 10,000 foot Cumbres pass to Chama. Two more engines, a flanger, and a spreader will run ahead from Antonito opening the way for them through the deep snow of one of the narrow gauge's last big winters. What these engines looked like upon arrival Chama can be seen HERE

A compilation of DRGW's La Veta Pass route to the San Luis Valley now operated by the SLRG. With Rio Grande Scenic passenger operations coming to a close in 2019, the Alamosa sub is once again freight-only, as reflected here.

The DRGW narrow gauge was the last major steam operation in the U.S. The climb over 10,000 foot Cumbres pass was spectacular, with two engines handling 70 car trains. Hopefully these images convey some of the drama of mountain steam railroading.
