As one of Santa Fe's ubiquitous red cabooses brings up the rear of an eastbound drag at tunnel 2, several westbounds wait for it to clear so they can continue their descent to Bakersfield. At over 13,000 feet in length, Bealville siding has been a favorite location for the dispatcher to make meets and hold trains when traffic is heavy. From this location it's easy to see the elevation gained by the line as it proceeds eastward.
