One of Southern's several spacer car operations - this one inherited from Central of Georgia - was between Albany and Dothan, Alabama. The relatively light spacer cars spread the weight of the Alcos in deference to a substandard bridge over the Chattahoochee River at Columbia, Alabama. Photographer unknown, but was from Miami, FL.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
