Remarks & Notes
Hidden in the hills of West Virginia is the Durbin Rocket, one of the treasures of American steam railroading. Built to haul heavy loads up steep grades, the former Moore-Keppel & Co. #3 now enjoys a life of luxary hauling tourists along a 6 mile stretch of the former C&O Durbin Branch along the Greenbrier River from Durbin, WV to the current terminus at Piney Island. #3 is a 55-ton Climax type geared steam locomotive, built in 1910. She is currently one of three examples of this type of locomotive left in operable condition today.
