It isn't a pretty spot where the Palmetto, northbound on the former ACL mainline, is seen crossing the Southern Railway in 1980. But it is a very historic one as Southern began life here one hundred and fifty years earlier as the South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company - home of the Best Friend of Charleston.
