Seaboard Coast Line passenger, mail, & express train No. 4 slams through Bonsal, NC. The "Original" Norfolk Southern's Durham Branch crossed SCL at this remote community 24 miles south of Raleigh. NS incrementally abandoned the Durham Branch and an approximate 6 mile portion at Bonsal became the New Hope Valley Railway, a living railroad museum which still operates today with various locomotives and rolling stock on display.
