Remarks & Notes
Here is a second view of former United States Army Transportation Corps S160 2-8-0 No 1734 taking water at Civitavecchia station with an 'express' from Rome to Pisa in the aftermath of World War II when there was no electric power available. If you look carefully just above the front of the loco two men are working on the overhead catenary. This loco was built by Baldwin in 1942 and shipped to the UK where it saw service before being sent to France after D-Day in June 1944 and finally moved to Italy as the war progressed. Photo on 35mm film by the late Peter Handford.
