Remarks & Notes
By the winter of 1987 getting many photos of Soo trains in Upper Michigan had become difficult. The few trains that still operated after the rerouting of the COFC traffic onto CSX rails from Detroit to Chicago tended to run in darkness. About the only train that was even possible to photo was the Trout Lake-Marquette local, and even that was hard to shoot as normal procedure had it facing west early in the morning as it put its train together. On this rare occasion a rather green crew had worked opposite of normal and put their train together working the east end of the yard, much to the displeasure of highway traffic on State Route 123. After getting the train together the crew headed to the local restaurant for a quick breakfast and left GP38-2's 4451 and 4442 spotted in perfect morning light before departure for Marquette.
