Remarks & Notes
Route Rock
With the failed merger into the UP behind in, the Rock Island trustees decided a new image would have to be created to show customers that this railroad was serious about improving its service. Thus the ROCK was born in 1976 and this new logo, which existed in three variations and the slogan “Route Rock” started to appear on anything and everything that had to do with the railroad. The new paint would soon be dubbed “bankruptcy blue” as the Rock Island would cease operations on March 31st 1980.
