Remarks & Notes
L&N train 66 sets of an extra unit (an RS-3) at Loyall. Engines 313 and 321 rotated regularly on trains 65 and 66 between Corbin and Norton for many years, since they were equipped with two-way radio (a novel device at the time, and installed just on selected units). The unit carries a Hancock air whistle--a unique device that sounded much like the melodious chime of a steam locomotive whistle. The Hancocks weren't sufficiently strident compared to Nathan chimes, so they were phased out beginning in the mid-'60s.
